Path of Exile Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes. The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak, which gives an unimportant but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. After that, they'll be able to purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player obtains weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.
